Let Your Lemons Make Way For You

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:18-19).

Since the year has started, I have noticed a very common meme going around on social media stating that, 2018 is the year of the “lemonade stand”. And although, I agree that this is the year of preordained purpose, it has also been brought to my attention that many are still learning to make lemonade from the lemons that God has provided in the different seasons of their lives. While some may be in a position to walk directly into God’s deliverance, some are still trying to understand the meaning behind the circumstances of their trials. For this reason, I would like to share my perspective of this meme as well as a few words that God has provided me.

2016: Lemons

So we have all heard the saying, when life gives you lemons, make lemonade, right? I assume that we have. Well to break down this saying in such a spiritual way, this is to explain that when God has allowed certain trials to come up against you, you seek the lesson within the tribulation itself. But to go even deeper, one has to understand that the lemon is the revelation of change. This is the direct moment when God has provided you the strength to carry on, even after surviving the fear of failure in the midst of that exact trial. Do you follow? Having the lemon means that you have survived. You now have achieved the initial level of change that is required for the advancement of your purpose. This is a stage that not everyone makes it out of…many stay in a place of pain, depression, or even guilt. But when God has allowed you to make it out of such a season as this, He uses the pain of that trial to propel you into your future, “making a way [for you] in the wilderness…” (Isaiah 43:19). That Lemon becomes your something, in the midst of having nothing.

2017: Lemonade

Making lemonade requires three simple steps, some may get more innovative but the reality of lemonade is quite simple…Lemons, water, sugar (honey, if that’s your thing). But all in all, it’s simple. You use what you have, to make what you need. God is not calling you to do anything that is difficult or super creative. His request for you to walk into your purpose is simple. Having the understanding that the lemons make room for purpose is half the battle. But this is where God calls you to make lemonade out of your past trials and tribulation. Now, for some – this is the season of struggle. This is where many will begin to doubt themselves or count themselves out because of what they have been delivered from. But like the Samaritan woman at the well who was afraid to provide God with a simple request for water due to her promiscuous past, God said, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water” (John 4:10). God is saying the same thing to you and me. If we know the power of God and all that is within Him, we should not ask how God or why me God? We should just move. We should simply combine the lemons from our past with His living water to begin cultivating His purpose for our lives. God is calling those in this season to a place of physical and mental surrender…to get out of your mind of rambling and unorganized thoughts…and to get to a place where the purpose for your life comes directly from your pain. In this season of lemonade, God is not asking for anything fancy, just an attempt to use the revelation that he has provided you – to walk into a season of uncomfortable intercessory. To simply state this, God is saying that your deliverance from past trials has the power to change lives. He is saying that your test is now your testimony….And just like the Samaritan woman, “Many of the Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the woman’s testimony” (John 4:39). This is it. When you have been delivered from your past, and offered the ability to turn your past into your purpose – you then have created lemonade. Your testimony is your lemonade. Change begins with lemons, but your purpose is in your lemonade.

2018: Lemonade Stand

Now, this is where your lemonade begins to make way for you. If you are in the season that many are calling, the lemonade stand, then God has given you the courage to use your testimony to not only change the lives of others but to build for you a foundation of abundance. His word says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men” (Proverbs 18:16). This right here is God saying that your test has become your testimony, with your testimony He has allowed you to walk into your purpose, and now – your purpose will bring you before inconceivable opportunities. Opportunities that only God can provide when you have received His purpose for your life. This is the season when you are to align your purpose so perfectly with God that your enemies will fall at your feet. And the only thing that God requires in this season from you, is to maintain and focus on your lemonade, as your lemonade stand will build itself. Just to reiterate, His word says, “A man’s gift maketh room for him” – no that a man maketh room for his gift (Proverbs 18:16). God has given you the gift of lemons, and as painful as it may have seemed in that season, you should now understand how to make lemonade. With steady devotion and centered faith, your lemonade stand will begin to form. This is where it all comes together, everything that you have been through; everything that you have learned; and everything that you have dreamt about – that is your lemonade stand.

And Sis, my prayer for you is that, in whatever season that you may be in, you allow your lemons to make way for you…that you stop doubting the deliverance from your past and begin walking confidently towards the next level of your purpose. God has given you all that you need to begin walking in this season and I claim your steps to be ordered in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Be blessed,

De’dria
